But it looks like that will all be changing. Which is good news for anyone who is looking for something to do on the weekend, and anyone who will be needing a job in the coming years.

That's because Pickering is in the process of getting a casino, waterpark, and hotel all rolled into one. Yes,all those things will be in one place apparently.

The complex would apparently create OVER 10,000 JOBS! Over 2,000 of those people would be working in the casino itself.

There isn’t any set date for when this would open (which is unfortunate because it sounds quite simply amazing) Durham Live is in the process of getting all its permits in order before beginning construction on the complex.

But once open it would give people in the GTA a new casino option that’s a lot closer than driving to Barrie or Niagara Falls.

The city of Toronto itself has turned down the idea of building a casino downtown many times in the past.

But if Durham Live get everything sorted out with their permits then we could all have a new option for an extremely fun night out right here in the GTA.

How many jobs will be created?

It is estimated that Durham Live will create up to 10,000 jobs, and the Pickering Resort Casino alone is expected to see approximately 2,000 new jobs for the casino, hotel and performance venue combined.

What will the economic impact be?
Based on an economic impact study prepared for the project, Durham Live has the capacity to contribute approximately $1.3 billion in incremental annual GDP, and over $625 million in annual total tax revenues. Based on the size and scale of the planned casino, host payments to Pickering are expected to be approximately $20 million or more per year upon full development.
Will the City share any revenues generated by the casino?
At the April 10, 2018 Council Meeting, a resolution was passed which proposes that 30 per cent of gaming revenues, at full build out of the gaming facility, be directed to the Region of Durham. It is at the Region’s discretion on how to allocate these funds. However, we suggest that a portion of the monies be directed towards social housing. See Minutes.
How will traffic impacts be addressed?
We collectively want to minimize any future traffic impacts. As such, the Durham Live developer is working with the City of Pickering, Region of Durham, and the Ministry of Transportation to implement various traffic infrastructure improvements. Possible enhancements include road widening, intersection improvements, a new road crossing of Highway 401, and a new partial Highway 401 interchange with direct access to the Durham Live site.
