Lenovo T440p M.2 Slot Average ratng: 9,2/10 4092 votes

Greetings,

Running Arch on this mostly great laptop.

Right now, I want to explore using the second slot to install an m.2 SSD, to give me another boot option. My idea is to use this or the 2.5in SSD as a windows + linux installs, utilizing BIOS to choose between them. I am aware of using the optical drive bay as a hard drive option.

The slot to the left looks like a m.2 slot with nothing in it. Will any 2242 ssd fit in it or does it have to be single sided. Also the laptop has no internal battery just a spacer. Is it possible to add a battery to this model? There is no 3rd m.2 slot under the internal battery spacer, can this be added to the t440? I took the battery out of my thinkpad t440p the other day and I noticed a sim card slot. I though it would be useful to install a sim card so that I don't have to use my phone's hotspot all the time, but I'm not sure how. 1x 2242 SATA III (B key) RAM. Windows OS Battery. More Lenovo ThinkPad T440p configurations - 14 laptops. M.2 is a solid-state drive (SSD) form factor primarily used as an operating system boot solution. Lenovo ThinkSystem servers support M.2 drives either with the addition of a supported M.2 adapter or module, or directly on the system board.

I understand there are two slots available: one occupied by the wireless LAN card, the other other free. Is this really true?

Some observations about this:
When I ordered the laptop, Lenovo had no option to configure to buy a m.2 drive. Crucial, a trusted big mfg'er of SSD's, lists no m.2 drive for the laptop. Lenovo.com's search shows no m.2 accessory for the T440p, in fact, few at all for any box. EDIT: the appropriate drive apparently is 42mm, which is less common it seems, but readily available from Transcend.

I am also concerned about Lenovo's whitelisting of accessories.

I would appreciate any hints, comments, or links regarding these questions, especially from T440 owners.
Happy Holidays,
Steve.

Hi everyone!
My son is upgrading his work laptop from a T440p to a T470 and is tossing the T440p to me, (see, if ya raise them right.... ).
I'm planning a few mods, (my son is a dev, but left the machine 'stock'), mainly the screen and touchpad. I also want to upgrade the drive to either a 128gb M.2 with a 1 TB drive for data in the main HDD slot, or 128 2.5 SSD and swap out the CD/DVD for a caddy to hold the 1 TB drive.

I've been looking at the specs and I can't find any information on the M.2 speeds for a SSD. Is it better to get a regular 2.5 SSD for this machine or will the M.2 provide faster throughput? Theoretically, the M.2 should be faster, but as I said, I can't find any details.
Thanks!
