Las Vegas casinos are slowly reopening and we know all of those employees are thrilled to get back to work. While gambling is not allowed of course in Boulder City, let’s face it – the head has ears – and frankly most locals do like to take advantage of either of our local area casinos, the Hoover Dam Lodge or the classic Railroad Pass Hotel Casino.

We took a super quick cruise through both of them this morning, and want to share what we observed:

The Hoover Dam Lodge is open for guests to stay and the entire casino is also fully operational. All of the employees we observed were masked as required and moving about serving guests and cleaning surfaces. The slot machine kiosks are spaced well apart from each other, and where needed due to player proximity, those have plexiglass installed between gamblers. We also noticed the same at the players bar, with plexi between guests and the bar staff as well. Floor decals throughout remind players of traffic flow and spacing when in lines. Their Cafe and the General Store were also both open for business. The Blazing Paddles adventure outfitter was also open and back in business!

At Railroad Pass, when we walked in we were greeted by a friendly gentleman who took our forehead temperature – a painless process that lasted just seconds. Again all employees were tending customers or cleaning, and all were masked. The only difference was the slot machine separations and the bar. Railroad Pass has removed chairs and made the machines inoperable between gamblers to meet those required distancing protocols. The players bar did not have any plexiglass installed (no where did we observe that except the cash exchange, which has always had similar barriers) and the hotel desk. The gaming tables we could not tell what would be happening there as none were open for the day, but one again assumes plenty of room will be set between each player as required. The Cafe is open, but the other two dining spots, the buffet and the DeSimone Steakhouse are still closed for now.

At both establishments, we observed some patrons masked and others not, much as everywhere else currently in Nevada, as they are not required by the general public. Those who feel comfortable venturing out, we hope you do so, as heaven knows these employees want to get back to work and start earning some income. There’s a truth here, we gotta circulate some money to get our economy moving again, and Nevada is what it is. Even in a town that doesn’t have gambling, both of these businesses employ locals and support our local economy. For those who are not yet comfy in this environment, we get that too, each has to do their own thing in their own way, and we all need to respect each other for that. Happy playing!
